20 Nov What’s really underneath our world’s struggles?
What are the deadly sins of modernity?
That question, posed by Nate Hagens, got me thinking deeply about what lies beneath the many crises of our time and led me to write a reflection on the Nature Knows The Way Substack: Going Upstream to the Source of Our Suffering.
My background in psychology and spirituality has shown me again and again that real healing and change arise when we’re willing to look at what’s upstream.
So much of what we call “the problems of the world” — climate change, inequality, polarization, greed — are downstream symptoms of something deeper. What’s really going on lies within Ego-Consciousness, principles that quietly shape our modern psyche and, by extension, our systems and societies.
Ego-Consciousness, when taken to extreme in our modern culture (the endless push for more, the drive for control, the fear of not enough), becomes the invisible roots of our suffering. By exploring and transforming our relationship with principles of Ego-Consciousness, we can begin to shift toward Eco-Consciousness — a more sustainable way of living in harmony with the world around us.
This is the focus of our Ecopsychological Inspiration session, “The Roots of Our Suffering: Eco-Consciousness,”
